TWO SHUTOUTS REGISTERED AT ICE JAM
HAMMOND PLAINS, NS, January 11, 2013 - Two shutouts and three close games were the hallmark of Friday mornings games at the East Coast Ice Jam. The Saint John Vitos and Valley Wildcats both won shutouts The Vitos 3-0 over Cole Harbour and Valley 3-0 over Charlottetown. Dartmouth doubled up on Cornwall Thunder 42 and Moncton Flyers topped the CB West Isalanders 3-1 while the Pictou County Weeks edged the St. John’s Maple Leafs 3-2.

The only game which was somewhat of a runaway was the Rothsay-Netherwood School topping Western NL Kings 8-4. It was the first scoring for the Kings in the tournament.

The Vitos scored a goal in the second and two in the third for the shutout with Alex Miller backstopping the win. Tyler Johnson, Logan Saunders and Curtis Hastings scored with assists to Hastings, Will Bower, Matt Gray and Ryan Dunfield.

Valley scored one in the first and two in the third while goaltender Michael Pettet held Charlottetown atbay. John Deacon, Jacob McNutt and Michael Dill supplied the counters with assists to McNutt, Grant Janes, Robert Patterso, Makail Parker and Steven Brooker.

Moncton scored in the first and second periods while the Islanders came back with a single in the third. Samuel LeBlanc got the Flyers on the board in the first and Kyle Ward and Alex Bradley scored in the second. Ryan Chiasson had a pair of assists with singles by Ward, Chris Goguen, LeBlanc and Alexandre Jacob.

Mark Wagner got the Islanders lone goal assisted by Garrett Lambke and Regan Spears. Maxim Landry picked up the win in net with Brandon MacDonald taking the loss.

Dartmouth scored the first three goals of the game and added an empty netter, shorthanded to take the win after the Thunder had tied up the game in the third. Andrew Shewfelt had three goals, including the game winner. Alex Anthony supplied the other counter. Brock Richard and Blaze Bridges replied for the Thunder.

Nathan Sheppard had a pair of assists for Dartmouth with Jesse Hamer picking up one. Cole Hackett, Max Morrison and Jean-Marc Evans-Renaud assisted for the Thunder. Brandon Dorrington took the win in net. Alex Kelly took the loss.

Pictou County scored a goal in each period on their way to the win. Mark Vokey scored a pair, the first two of the game, with Cole Livingstone scoing the final one. Adam Caines and Ryan Kenny replied for the Maple Leafs.

Cole Livingstone, Lane Cormier (2), Darryl Wheaton and Vokey had the Weeks assists. Tyler Tobin and Bobby Upshall picked up assists for the Leafs. Tanner Doiron was the winner in net. Josh Carey took the loss.

Rothesay Netherwood scored a pair in each of the first two periods and added four in the third on their way to an 8-4 win. Jordan Boyd had three goals, Mitchell Vanderlaan a pair with Mitchell Byrne, Devon Earle and Chase Bell each picking up singles.

Jordan Richards, Joshua Taylor, Jordan King and Brady Griffin Hefford each scored singles for the Kings., Adam Higdon took the win in net with Dylan Ellsworth tagged with the loss.
