N.S. TEAMS WINNERS ON OPENING NIGHT

HAMMOND PLAINS, NS, January 9, 2q013 - The first two games of the East Coast Ice Jam here weren’t kind to the visiting Newfoundland teams as Dartmouth Major Midgets downed the St. John’s Maple Leafs 4-0 and the Halifax Titans came away with a 3-1 win over the St. John’s Privateers.

Tomorrow (Thursday) is a full day of hockey at the BMO Centre with teams from all four Atlantic Provinces will compete in 11 games beginning at 11am until the final game starting at 9:00pm. The full schedule can be found with the link on the front page.

The Dartmouth Taylor Flooring Major Midgets scored one in each of the firs two periods and added a pair in the third while goaltender Brandon Dorrington kicked out every puck that came his way. No shots were kept.

Lawrence Lyver got Dartouth on the board on a power play. Alex Webster scored in the second and Josh Worthen and Austin Donlevy rounded things off. Alex MacDonald had a pair of assists with Jesse Hamer, Kyle MacDonald, Alex Anthony, Worthen and Brady Jacobs adding singles.

Worthen was named Dartmouth’s game star and Maple Leaf goaltender Tyler Boland was named the St. John’s star of the game.

The second game of the night was a close affair in the first with niether team able to get a goal but in the second the Halifax Titans broke the scoreless tie on a power play goal by Ethan Marsh. Jack Patterson and Patrick Stewart added singles in the third. Ben Cleary got the lone Privateers goal to tie the score at 1-1 early in the third but when the Titans came back they couldn’t get the equalizer.

Brett McNeil had a pair of assists for the Titans, Dillon Boucher, John MacDonald and Clarke and Bezanson contributed singletons. Peter Kavanaugh and Andrew Haley picked up the assists on St. John’s goal.

Jacob Demsey was the winning goaltender. Chris Smith took the loss in net.
