MAJOR MIDGET PLAYOFFS KICK OFF SATURDAY HALIFAX, NS, January 9, 2015 - The top 16 teams in the Major Midget division of the East Coast Ice Jam are off to the first round of playoffs Saturday morning with the winners moving on to the quarter finals 

The Halifax McDonalds ended up in first place after the round robin and played first Saturday morning against the Cape Breton Tradesmen coming away with a 4-3 win. They are joined by the other six Nova Scotia teams in the playoffs. Cole Harbour Wolfpack, Pictou County Weeks, Valley Wildcats, Cape Breton West Islanders, Dartmouth Gladiators and South Shore Mustangs.

The Moncton Flyers, Miramichi Rivermen, Fredericton Canadiens and Kensington Wild of the NB-PEI Major Midget League also made the playoff round as did the St. John’s Privateers and the St. John’s Maple Leafs of the NL Major Midget League.

Rothesay Netherwood Riverhawks and Ottawa Jr. 67s have also advanced to the first playoff round.

Yesterday the Flyers won their second game 2-1 over the South Shore Mustangs. Chris Sarault and Kyle Ward scored for the Flyers Tristan d'Entremont for the Mustangs. Julian Galloway was the winning goalie.

The Riverhawks downed the Charlottetown Islanders 5-3, with Ross MacDougall, Colton Marchand, Andrew Neilson, Pierre Bourgoin, and Dominic O'Halloran scoring for RNS and Hunter McIntyre, Johnathan Larter and Chris McQuaid scoring for the Islanders.

Aaron Mantle got a 2-0 shutout for the Dartmouth Newbridge Academy Gladiators over the Saint John Vitos with Brock McLeod and Matthew Crowell getting the goals.

The Fredericton Canadiens shutout the Cape Breton West Islanders 3-0 with Ryan Hale backstopping the win. Mika Cyr, Cole Easton and Sam Cameron provided the goals.
