FIRST THREE GAMES AT ICE JAM VERY CLOSE
HALIFAX, NS, January 7, 2015 - The first three Major Midget games of the East Coast Ice Jam have been played with the RNS Riverhawks topping the St. John's Privateers 4-2; The Dartmouth Newbridge Academy Gladiators and Western NL Kings playing to a 3-3 tie and the Halifax McDonalds scoring the winning goal in a 4-3 game with Tripen Osprey.

Morgan Barron, Aaron Parks and Johnny Foley, shorthanded, scoring for the Gladiators and getting out to a 3-0 lead by the end of 40 minutes (they led 1-0 after the first0 only to see the Kings come back with three in the third to knot the score with goals by Mateo Short, shorthanded, and Jalen Gillard and Michael Lundrigan both on power plays. Luke House tended the goal for the Kings, Aaron Mantle was in net for the Macs.

The Privateers led 1-0 after the second in their game, after a first period when neither team scored. They went up 2-0 early in the third but the Riverhawks came back with four straight goals to win the game. Brandon Lucas, unassisted, and Colin Chafe, on the power play, scored for St. John's.

Brendan Bornstein, Derek Gentile, Samuel LeBlanc scored power play goals and Devin Sceles, a shorthander, for Rothesay Netherwood School. Luke Bhatia made 28 saves for the win in net. Chris Smith made 16 saves in the loss.

The Tripen Osprey went out to a 1-0 lead in the first by Conal McNamara but the Macs came back with a pair, the first by Keegan Gauthier and the second by Bradley Shaw to take a 2-1 lead into the final frame. Doug D'Arnall made it 3-1 in the third but the osprey came back with a pair of power play goals, by Nathanial Duffett and Cameron Simms, to tie things up.

With just over six minutes left in the game, Barrett Dachyshyn scored shorthanded to put his team back in the lead and that's the way the game ended. Matt Welsh backstopped the Macs to the win. Brent Hatfield took the loiss.

Games continue all day tomorrow with both the Major Midgets and Major Bantam teams in play.
