One to Watch: Shane Bowers - Halifax McDonalds

2015-01-04

The Halifax McDonalds will be looking to repeat as the Chronicle Herald East Coast IceJam this January. In order to do so they will rely on many new faces on the team. One of those new faces is Shane Bowers.  Shane is no stranger to success at the IceJam though; he was an integral part of the 2014 Bantam Champions, Bubba Ray’s Gull. He scored a hat trick in the championship game versus Dartmouth. One of those goals tied the game with 33 seconds remaining and forcing the two teams to overtime where the Gulls would eventually win. The successful tournament would also see Shane named to the IceJam’s 1st All-Star Team.

Shane Bowers is a 15 year old from Herring Cove Nova Scotia. Even before stepping on the ice this season with major midget he was touted as “one to watch”.  So far he’s living up to the hype. Shane’s a strong skater with incredible puck control. He led the Nova Scotia Major Bantam League last season with 33 goals and 69 points (only 1 point from the leader). His success continued this past September when he was led the NSEMMHL in points.

This past fall Hockey Nova Scotia announced its male hockey team that will complete at the Canada Games in BC this coming February. It came with no surprise that Shane was announced to this team. Shane will be looked upon as a clutch player in pressure situations. What fans will find out is those are the moments that Shane performs the best.

John Moore recently interviewed Shane for sportsandmoore.com: http://sportsandmoore.com/shane-bowers-2015-qmjhl-prospect/
